Downgrade to Spotify Free, keep your library
Canceling Premium doesn't delete your account — it converts to the free ad-supported tier at the end of the billing period. You keep playlists, saved songs, and followers, but lose offline downloads, ad-free listening, and on-demand playback on mobile. This is Spotify's structural retention play rather than a counteroffer.
- Where it appears
- Built into the whole cancel flow: after 'Cancel subscription' you get a loss-aversion screen listing what you'll lose, then an optional exit survey (skippable) — cancellation itself is framed as a switch to Free.
- Fine print
- Applies to everyone who cancels through Spotify (web account page). If you subscribed via Apple, you cancel through Apple instead and the same downgrade-to-free happens.
